I have had deep vein thrombosis in my leg for three months now. I still have no answers from the doctors. No injury. The pain comes in fast, at first it feels like someone kicked me in the leg real hard. Then it blows up like a balloon, becomes red and much warmer than the other leg. It is very itchy with sharp pains running up my leg. I have had three different ultrasounds done this time. It happened once before, two years ago, and went away on its own, but took 4 months.

Almost 2 months after having ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) surgery I cramped up really bad (or so I thought) in my thigh on the same leg. It was so hard and tight. I went to my physiotherapist thinking it was tight muscles from not stretching. They massaged, iced and gave me a stem treatment which did relieve the tightness but not pain. Long story short, 2 weeks later got ultrasound which showed deep vein thrombosis, clots from knee to groin area on the inner right thigh. It was a sharp pain going up my leg, with lots of swelling.

I had rolled my ankle pretty badly. Two weeks later, still in the boot, my calf began to feel achy from time to time. The best description is like a cyclical migraine. A little tender to the touch, no swelling, and no redness. Two podiatrists said it is normal to have pain in the calf after a bad sprain. It was my general physician who sent me for ultrasound STAT, which revealed 3 DVTs (deep vein thromboses) in my calf.

I had a pulmonary embolism with no leg symptoms three years ago. Last week, I thought I'd pulled a muscle, then my calf started to swell. I have a deep vein thrombosis and was started on Xarelto starter pack for 30 days. The pain is in the back of my knee and travels up the back of my thigh and sometimes down to my foot. It's definitely worse with exertion. I read somewhere that's it's probably less about the clot (the pain) and more about the poor blood flow in that vein.

My deep vein thrombosis (DVT) started out feeling like an unfinished charley horse in the back of my leg, out of the blue one morning when I got up. For 3 days I suffered thinking it was just that. I ended up going the 3rd night to the emergency room, my leg had swelled up and I was in so much pain. They did bloodwork and told me the diagnosis was probably a blood clot. Fast forward to the doctor yesterday, my score should have been 400, and it was 2600. My blood clot is from my knee to my ankle.

I have rheumatoid arthritis. I had bad spell in the end of January. I get shots for swelling and I am on 40 mg prednisone all the time. The swelling went down but my wrist didn't set right. Well, I tried to get help, no insurance, and now sciatica has set in. I am not sure if the nurse hit a nerve, now I can't walk but my veins are doing weird things like, new ones appear in my right wrist and left leg then light up like Etch A Sketch bruise instantly. Then the side of my foot caved in, and 45 minutes later I was normal. Worried about deep vein thrombosis.

I think I may have deep vein thrombosis. It hurts both legs when I lie down so badly I have to stand, but I can't walk right away. It feels like my legs are going to explode. I can't walk far without having to sit down or I feel like I'm going to die of pain so bad, but it does go away. I have swelling in my knees, calves and feet, I have red color feet and it burns in my feet sometimes. Varicose veins are broken all over my legs, ankles and feet. I have fast heartbeat and high blood pressure.

I broke my hip on 4/30/20. Just within the past week I have gotten what feels like a charley horse in my calf. I just woke and it is extremely painful. I am worried it is deep vein thrombosis.

I was told I have a deep vein thrombosis in my leg right at my groin and a very small one in my lungs. My swelling has progressed instead of getting better.

My symptoms of deep vein thrombosis started overnight over a weekend. I woke up after sleeping in on a Sunday morning and I thought I must have had a charley horse in my right calf because it was so sore, but I didn't remember waking up from that during sleep. As the week progressed, my lower leg got more and more painful until I could only walk by limping around and it felt like a rock was inside my calf, it was so swollen and tight. I also got ulcers there that got infected and scarred. I'm 33.

My deep vein thrombosis (DVT) was in the arch of my foot, bottom of foot, and I was told this is very unusual. I was getting muscle cramps in my calf and foot for some time prior to the clot. Then my calf began to ache, I thought it was due to the muscle cramps. When the bottom of my foot began to feel like I was walking on a golf ball a few days later I became concerned about a blood clot and went to the emergency room where my suspicions were confirmed. I was immediately put on blood thinners and advised to see my doctor.

With deep vein thrombosis my feet hurt about a third of the way down, 2 inches away from the toes, and the vein sticks out more on my right foot. I sit down all day virtually.

The night before I was to get injections for the hip replacement I had almost 5 years ago, I noticed that the other leg was really swollen and had red spots all over it and the right leg was starting to do the same thing. My surgeon saw it and sent me immediately over to get scanned only on the left calf and nowhere else. Turns out I have a clot there, I'm thinking I have deep vein thrombosis in the other leg in the calf and in the thigh. I never recovered from the hip surgery so I have been laid up in my bed for these 5 years, not all the time, but most of the time I would honestly say.

On 8th and 11th October 2013 I had manual traction at physiotherapy. A belt was tied around my calves. On 11th October pain developed in my right calf. The doctor said it was sciatica! On 18th October 13 I had scan for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and a 5 inch clot was found! Only action taken by the doctor was to tell me to take Xarelto. On 8th January 2014 I was breathless, and a lung VQ scan showed 20 clots in both lungs! Nothing was medically done except to tell me to remain on Xarelto until 31st October 2014. Now it is 22 July 2017 a lung VQ scan shows still there are 20 or more clots in lungs, and I am very breathless, tired, etc. I started Xarelto 15 mg 2 times a day 3 weeks ago. Last week I had extreme pain again in my right calf while in bed at 4.10 am, again this morning in my left calf at 2 am. I believe I was not properly medically treated.

I experienced swelling in my leg, a very heavy feeling and extreme pain that seemed to move up the back of my leg every few days until the day I was hospitalized for deep vein thrombosis (DVT). I stood up from my desk, and the excruciating pain I had behind my knee shot to my groin, my leg instantly went stark white, and the new pain was like the worst toothache ever times one million. And then my leg rapidly swelled from hip to toe. My first DVT was at 24 years of age. I spent nineteen days in the hospital. About two weeks after my discharge, my doctor's office called and asked that I come in right away. His diagnosis was that I had a very rare blood clotting disorder. Essentially, I am the opposite of a hemophiliac, that is, a free bleeder. My blood, through genetics, is the consistency of pancake syrup. I was told I could never again get pregnant. I was told I would have to take Coumadin and wear custom compression stockings for the rest of my life. That was 24 years ago. Today, I am 48 years old, and I have had six clots (all in the same leg) and two pulmonary embolisms. My last two clots were only months apart. The aggregate damage has damaged my femoral and great saphenous vein valves leaving me with chronic deep venous insufficiency and venous hypertension. I was forced to retire under these circumstances. Now, I use a lymphedema pump to recirculate the blood in my leg to be re-oxygenated. I am in constant pain and various stages of swelling. The only exercise I get is in the pool. I have recently discovered that a new non-silicone prosthetic vein valve is going through animal testing, and human trials should be coming up in the next year or two. I have already signed up. If replacing my broken valves does not work, I will have my left leg amputated about mid-thigh. This is the only way to restore my quality of life.

I have extensive osteoarthritis and had various joint surgeries including bilateral shoulder replacements. My painful left knee has a large red/blueish discoloration which I've discussed with my doctor for several years. It was dismissed as a form of varicose veins, never investigated. Recently I had very painful back of left knee, leg redness, and swelling. The doctor said it was possibly a muscle tear or Baker's cyst, but not a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as I had queried. I was sent for ultrasound; there was an extensive DVT from ankle to groin! I am now on Xarelto. I am not impressed with the general physician's lack of investigation which may have detected problem years ago.

I have a blood clotting disorder (anticardiolipin antibody in my blood). I have been on Coumadin for the past 25 years with no side-effects or other problems, and will be on it for life; however, before I knew about my disorder (which didn't present until I was in my late 20s), I had three blood clots in my legs at different times. The primary symptom of a blood clot, for me, is that it will feel as if the leg with a clot has run a marathon, even after walking only a short distance, while the other leg feels fine. I've never experienced any of the other classic symptoms, such as redness or pain in the area of the clot.

While I was taking chemotherapy for breast cancer, I awakened one morning with severe swelling in my right leg. I called my oncologist and he ordered a Doppler and a CT scan. Both tests showed many blood clots. I was prescribed Xarelto for deep vein thrombosis and told to go home and elevate my leg and wrap it in hot, wet towels. I was referred to a vascular surgeon who performed a venogram. The surgeon told me that I had a totally blocked inferior vena cava, and there was nothing he could do for me. That was 3 months ago, and my leg is still swollen, sore, itchy, red, etc. I am very disheartened that I may have to live the rest of my life in this condition. I have a problem believing that nothing can be done to alleviate my condition. I hope to get another opinion.

My experience with deep vein thrombosis began with a foot and ankle injury. My ankle, my foot and the bottom half of my leg swelled every day. My toes went purple, my foot went ice cold, numb and had a burning sensation. Cramping in my leg and a constant deep pain was also present. I was on T3s which helped a little, but the side effects like having a problem going to the bathroom was a big issue. A gentle overnight Ex-Lax solved that problem. Later it was discovered, and I'm talking three weeks, that I had a huge clot in the main artery in the groin of my right leg. I am now on warfarin for the next six months to prevent any more clots forming. If you have problems walking long distances with cramping, burning and pain in your legs, I urge you to seek medical help. Chances are you have a clot or decreased circulation to your legs. Clots can break free if untreated, travel to your lungs or heart and kill you. Don't neglect or dismiss the warning signs. Your body is trying to tell you something is not right.

I had swelling in my left foot for over a year. I thought it was because of a new blood pressure medicine. My doctor sent me for echocardiogram and it was fine. The swelling got worse and one day I thought I had pulled a muscle in my inner thigh. After ultrasound I found out that I had a very large blood clot extending into my abdomen from my left leg. I was 3 days in ICU. I had 2 days of catheterization to dissolve and remove the DVT (deep vein thrombosis). I'm now attending Coumadin clinic once a month and recovering nicely.

A week after having an angioplasty, my right leg began to show signs of swelling on a Friday night. By Monday, I called my cardiologist and he said to go immediately to the emergency room. I did and spent the next 10 hours there. They ran an ultrasound and some other test. I saw a doctor and then was sent home, saying they couldn't find anything even though my leg was more than two inches larger than the other. I went back to the cardiologist the next day. He was shocked at the size of my leg and sent me to a vascular doctor whom I did not see until two days later. They found a deep vein thrombosis in my groin area immediately. They put me in the hospital for five days on IV heparin, followed by six months on Coumadin. I have had another angioplasty since then, and this time I didn't have a blood clot. Thank God!

I thought I had pulled a muscle in the calf of my left leg. I went to the doctor, and he sent me home and told me to exercise, give it three weeks, and it should be fine. This was on a Wednesday. By that Saturday, I could not even handle weight on my left foot at all. I went to the emergency room and found out I had a deep vein thrombosis that was from above my left knee that went all the way to my ankle. I was admitted and immediately started on Lovenox shots and Warfarin. I am home and doing better. Thank goodness I listened to my body and not the doctor.

Once upon a time, I was going to school like normal as always, and all of a sudden I started having problems walking, breathing, etc. This was in a large time span of about a week, and it got to the point where we went to the emergency room. After X-rays and ultrasounds, the doctor came in and said "we found DVTs in his legs, and we are flying him to Johns Hopkins". I said, "I don't have time for this, I am only 13 years old this can't be happening!" I have spent my Easter as well as a good 2 months in the hospital as they were trying to put me on warfarin. This is caused because I have factor V leiden, and an absent IVC. Is it possible to consume more protein C and S with factor V? I wonder, again I am only 13 years old and this is only for like 60 year olds. I understand how rare this is, almost impossible.
I experienced leg pain and swelling around my left knee which I ignored for several days. I than experienced groin pain and my foot became very cold. And along with the swelling I had tenderness and redness of the leg. this was all in a matter of 1 week. I panicked went straight to ER and was examined by two md's, had a doppler done on the leg, 2 clots were found, one in the groin area and one smaller one behind my knee, I was then immediately hooked up to IV heperin and was told I was not too get out of bed for the fear of the moving. One clot was found in the groin area and because of the large size of it, it had actually blocked a valve in the groin area that resulted in the the blockage of flow of blood thru my leg. they determined that the smaller clot behind my knee had broken from the larger one that was in the groin area. I spent almost 2 weeks laid up in the hospital with an IV blood thinner. I had to be scanned/x rayed from head to toe before I could be released from hospital. This was 5 years ago, I still depend on compression stockings to help with swelling and discomfort of the leg and I also take a low dose of aspirin daily.
I am a 50-year-old woman and have had four episodes of deep vein thrombosis. The first one occurred after my third childbirth. Each time the site is my right leg, probably damaged during the first clot. There is no known factor identified, and I have been on warfarin therapy since the third episode. The first three episodes were accompanied by the usual swelling, heat, discoloration of the leg before I was diagnosed with DVT. But this last time, the clot was caught very early, before the vein was blocked completely. I have noticed that I know something is wrong with circulation in my leg way before these more obvious symptoms begin. These include a feeling of tiredness in the leg, especially when beginning exercise, but then feeling better as exercise increases the circulation. The veins in my foot and ankle stand out more. There is a mild but constant internal ache in the leg and an odd "plugged" feeling. Sometimes the vein actually feels irritated to me, and perhaps more full to the touch. My affected leg is always slightly larger, and slightly a different color than the other, due to poorer circulation, but the color begins to change subtly darker, and it also feels colder than the other foot when this problem is beginning. My right foot will often feel tingly when I first stand on it in the morning, in spite of exercising foot and ankle before getting up. I sometimes have a hard time convincing my physician that I can feel when things are happening inside the vein, but with experience, I am clearer and clearer that I can. He sent me for an ultrasound of my leg this time, even though he said he did not suspect a clot. The ultrasound showed a "web" or strings of clot just beginning to form. My hospital time and rehab has been much quicker.

After testing in the emergency room, no severe injuries showed in CT scan. But I was diagnosed with peripheral arteria disease (PAD) In both legs. I am border line diabetic. Within two weeks after I have lost definition and size in my left leg and it is black and blue because of the deep vein thrombosis.

I went to the emergency room last night with my right leg swollen from the knee down to my ankle. I had an ultrasound which did not show deep vein thrombosis (DVT), but my leg is still swollen and hurting. They couldn't tell me what's wrong with my leg.

I'm commenting for my husband who is 7 weeks post knee surgery and has developed a large deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his thigh. It started last week with pain and swelling in his thigh which made his whole leg swell within a day. His surgeon put him on Xarelto which he started just yesterday. He's in significant pain and has never used anything stronger than Advil until now. I'm watching him closely, checking his pedal pulse, coloration and swelling. This has me really anxious. Just hoping that the Xarelto does the job.

About a week ago I got a horrible leg cramp down the back of my calf and into my foot and toes. I've never had a cramp so bad. It lasted for a good half hour. Now the knee in the same leg severely hurts and I have pain all the way down the back of my calf and leg. Several articles suggest deep vein thrombosis.

I have rolls of swelling with veins on top and bottom of each swollen section on both legs but less on my left leg. This happens more on the right leg plus in the middle in the calf in the back of my leg (after walking more the 30 minutes). I am worried about deep vein thrombosis. It feels like charley horse and hurts so bad that I can hardly walk. They are in the front of my calves, just looking at them it doesn't look like anything's wrong except for my upper leg. I never have had vein problems, my ankles have veins also; purple rings, like socks line.

I suffered deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in 1977 and have been living with the effects since. Back then I was prescribed dicumarol and heparin, and lived normally after about 5 years. In 2005 I had surgery and a boot was not used on the leg during the operation. I developed an ulcer in the ankle area which was the worst pain in my life for almost one year. I was also told that the valve was broken. My doctor used injections to ablate the bad veins, but the very injections were extremely painful and would not heal for extensive periods of time. I wear support stockings every day, or the leg would swell and become heavy if I don't. The remaining veins are now hard, and distended on the inside of my leg, and there is no cure. I don't think I would ever let anyone inject the leg again, it was the worst year of my life. I'm hoping for a miracle.

I developed at DVT after surgery to remove a uterine fibroid, which was severely hemorrhaging. I was given high doses of estrogen to slow the bleeding down in preparation for surgery and the hospital put me on bed rest due to constant fainting episodes. After surgery, they put me in those wraps that squeeze your calves and help prevent blood clots. The next day I was instructed to walk around and that's when I noticed my knees were twice their normal size. I also had a pain similar to a muscle cramp whenever I walked or moved my calf muscle. Within a few hours I was given an ultrasound which showed a clot in my calf. I was started on a bridge therapy of Lovenox injections twice daily and Coumadin. It took 18 days of the abdominal injections for my INR to reach therapeutic levels. That was over three months ago and my doctor expects my therapy to continue anther three months. I continue to have occasional aches in the effected leg, in addition to a feeling of tightness.

I am 29. My right leg, lower back and bottom area was hurting for awhile, and I had chalked it up to a roller derby injury. Last week, I mowed my lawn, and had to stop several times because of the pain in my leg. I took a shower later and when I got out, my right leg was purple and swollen. I went to the ER, and was admitted. I have clots from my groin to my knee. I spent 3 days in the hospital. I had to take injections in my tummy for 5 days, and now I am on Coumadin, which I guess I will be on for 6 months. My leg hurts still, especially in the groin area. Scary. I am really scared of the clot travelling to my lungs.

I woke up on Monday morning with a swollen leg and severe pain in my back. I had been having back kinks and thought that it was working its way down and out. I finally broke down and went to a chiropractor. He said I had a bulging disc and a pinched nerve but that the leg and swelling were not related. As I was about to leave, he said if the leg turned purple to go to the emergency room. I thought it was already purple. Later that night, it got a lot darker and I could hardly walk, so I went to the ER. They did a Doppler and an ultrasound. I had a clot and it was extensive, almost the entire leg. I was hospitalized for two days and put on a Lovenox and Warfarin treatment. I went back to the chiropractor and asked if he saw something on the X-ray. He said no. The next day, he said that the clot could possibly be related to the back problem. No one seems to be very forthcoming with information. I'll ask him again what he meant when I go again on Friday. My leg is still swollen and uncomfortable, but my back is feeling better.

Very recently, my 20-year-old niece developed H1N1. As she worsened, seemingly with the flu, she ended up in the emergency room unable to walk. A nurse noticed swelling in a leg and urged the doctor to check for clots. She has two very large clots in her leg and her lung. She almost died. She may not survive as I type this. My brother died of a blood clot that moved from his leg to his heart. Doctors said that part of my niece's leg clot moved to her lung. So far, the clots cannot be removed. I fear my niece may die. For God's sake, something must be done about this horrible, silent, and mostly unknown disease.

Approximately 7 weeks ago, I started feeling pain around my knee. Sometimes the area where the calf muscle connected to the back of the knee hurt and felt tight. Other times, the front of my knee hurt and felt weak to the point that I feared it would collapse. Often, I could not extend the knee and felt that it was locked in place. I never suspected a blood clot in my calf muscle until one week ago when I saw that my ankle was swollen. A couple days later, my entire lower leg appeared swollen. When I finally saw a doctor 2 days ago, they diagnosed a clot. I still feel that my knee has a problem despite x-rays that show nothing wrong. I still cannot put full weight on the knee, nor can I pivot the leg. Also, I noticed that long flights are considered a cause of clots because of the prolonged sitting. I spend much time working on the computer.

Motrin and a generic, rested the leg, applied alternating heat and cold and used a wrap. The leg felt better and at least I could walk, but I called my doctor to make certain that I had not done major damage by exercising. I believe the exercising threw everyone off. I felt much better. I even started to cancel my appointment. My doctor examined me and ordered an ultrasound just to be safe. I was surprised when it turned out to be a blood clot. The thought of clot had crossed my mind briefly when I first experienced the unusual pain, but I did not know the symptoms. I am presently undergoing outpatient treatment. I am sharing my experience because the coincidence of a possible sports injury may have masked the symptoms that should have been a clue. As far as possible cause, the only category that I fall into is that I had been sitting for long periods of time while working on a project, but I have sat for long periods like that before.

I'm so upset to have now a blood clot in my lower left leg. I had a blood clot in my right lung. I had to be in the hospital for over a week, getting shots after shots for my deep vein thrombosis. I had a pain shoot all way up my leg and it stopped in the groin area. Now I have a sore spot and it feels like there is a little knot there. I am worried if it is a symptom of deep vein thrombosis.

I have a problem I believe it has to do with my varicose veins. At night it feels like my bed is rippling at the bottom left side to right side or it feels like something is walking across the bottom of my bed. When it first happened I thought maybe my small dog had passed. Was walking on my bed sometimes is stronger than others. It wakes me up and I can still feel it when I'm awake. When I had my varicose veins done, I tried to talk to the doctor but he acted like I am nuts. This is driving me nuts.

My left leg was swollen for about two years and several doctors - two orthopedic and three MDs - told me it was "fluid" and only one suggested any remedy and that was Dyazide. I had knee surgery last winter in FL and a total knee replacement on the left leg in August 2009 in MI. Six weeks of therapy and I could barely lift my left leg off the floor and I struggled to get up and out of a chair. I thought it just took more time for a total recovery. In November my regular MD was out of the office at the time of my routine lab work so I saw an associate. She immediately noticed my swollen leg and sent me to imaging for a Doppler. I went from there to the hospital with four DVT'S in the groin area. Very extensive as my doctor said. Why did no other doctor suggest a Doppler? I never surmised blood clots when I had terrible "charley horses" in the back of my leg, the swelling, or the warmth. I think we have to be our own doctor!! Thank God that my regular doctor was gone and I had one who ordered the Doppler. I am now on Coumadin for six months and can lift my leg "knee high", and get out of a chair with no problem!

I would like to warn people out there of the danger of DVT. I lost my husband 11 years ago, because a doctor told my husband, he had a spot of pneumonia in his left lung and to take it easy for a couple of days. On his way to the doctor, he stopped at Walmart to get cough syrup, and passed out in the store. He was rushed to the emergency room and DIED within one hour. He was only 43 years old at the time. After the autopsy, a blood clot was found to have broken loose from his left leg and that was the SPOT the doctor had seen two days before.

When I was having problems with DVT, I felt as if I had a very deep cramp in the back of my left leg that was only helped by having wet heat applied. The pain returned as soon as I started to walk again.

I had surgery on my right foot. I had to visit my doctor once per week after that, and I had to wear an orthopedic boot and crutches. Two weeks later, my doctor suggested to let go of the crutches, and I did, I started walking only with my boot, and the day before my third visit to the doctor, as I went to get out of bed in the morning, I put on my boot and as I step on my foot to start walking, I felt this sharp pain shooting from my heel up to the back of my knee. It really hurt, but I thought it was just sore because I just started walking without my crutches, so I went ahead and managed to get out of bed and start walking - with my crutches again, to ease the pain. When I saw my doctor the next day, I mentioned this to him and he checked my leg. It wasn't even swollen; it was just sore, from my heel to the back of my knee. The doctor saw the possibility of a clot and sent me right away to the emergency room to have an ultrasound, which ended up revealing a blood clot on my leg.

For me, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) manifested itself as pain on the inside of the leg, just below the knee. The pain also travels upward, something like halfway up the thigh. There is also very uncomfortable throbbing at times.

I awoke in the middle of the night with blinding pain in my left hip which radiated down my leg. When I got out of bed to go to the restroom, the muscles in my calf contracted so hard that I could not extend my leg out in front of me to walk and almost fell down. The pain was excruciating! Being a healthy person, I assumed it was some sort of temporary fluke thing and would subside by morning. But, upon awakening, my entire leg from hip to toe had blown up more than 5 times its normal size. Still thinking it was a fluke, I elevated it and waited for the swelling to go down. Luckily, my mother visited and insisted I go to the doctor. The first doctor did not touch me at all - diagnosed it as DVT - and sent me on to the emergency room.

I have arthritis in my joints. One day my right knee started hurting really badly behind the knee and I thought it was just my knee acting up because of the change in the weather. So I went and spent about $60.00 on patches, and braces for my knee. In spite of all my efforts to get some relief, it seemed to get worse, as days went by it eventually got to where I couldn't walk on it at all. That was when I decided to go to the doctor. They drew my blood and said that some of my levels were high. So then they did a Doppler ultrasound of my whole right leg and found that all three main veins in my leg were clotted. Then they did a CT scan of my lungs and found that I had both lungs with embolisms in them. They had me transferred to a larger hospital to an intensive care unit (ICU). I was there for two days and then they found out that my insurance wouldn't cover a hospital stay and I was sent home not knowing if I was going to be OK or not. Now I have to give myself shots everyday and pray for the best. That is my personal experience with my DVT AND PULMINARY EMBOLISMS.

I had surgery on my ankle. After surgery I had a severe bruise 3" above the incision that wrapped around the calf muscle. When I came out of surgery the ankle didn't hurt - it was my calf muscle that was extremely painful - it was so bad that they gave me a block for the pain. The pain subsided. Almost two weeks later, I had recurring severe pain in my calf when I would use my crutches (yet was not bearing weight on that leg). My foot would turn pink/purple when it was not elevated (they said that was 'normal'). I started physical therapy and the pain increased so I actually thought the pain was due to 'over doing it' in physical therapy (it was like a bad muscle cramp that would come and go). Other than that, I HAD NO OTHER 'USUAL' or 'COMMON' SYMPTOMS. A friend of mine told me to not take chances so I called my surgeon and suggested that this pain was quite severe for a muscle cramp.....after the scans, they discovered that I had one clot at the base of my calf and one clot behind the knee. I was hospitalized and am undergoing treatment at home. DO NOT WAIT - if you have the slightest of symptoms, get tested TODAY. I was told that most people do not have the "usual" or "common" symptoms. I was also told that this was uncommon for my age and activity level.... don't take 'no' for an answer. I thought it was a simple leg cramp and was proven wrong. I'm glad I had it checked out and caught it when I did.

I'm 25 and have had DVT in both legs the symptoms were massive swelling to the leg mostly below the knee, my leg swell so much the skin started to flake and was very brittle requiring lots of ointment to keep it from splitting. Around the same time the swelling started I was met with very intense pain from deep within my leg that even the strongest painkillers failed to have an effect. I am not exaggerating when I say it's the most painful experience in my life. I've broken my wrist and forearm, toothache and migraines don't come close and it took about 6 weeks of Fragmin injections then onto oral anticoagulants before it started to get better. Then 9 months later it all started in the other leg. I was in hospital for 2 weeks as the swelling was so severe.

I am 23 years old, my case is rare because my first blood clot was at 18 years old. I felt tingling and swelling in my leg for a couple of days I didn't know what it was until when I was short of breath. I panicked and went to the ER. There was a clot in my leg and it traveled to my lungs they hooked me up to heparin for 2 weeks in the hospital until my PTT levels were back to normal. When I became pregnant in 2008 I was placed on Lovenox for that pregnancy and nothing thereafter. My latest episode landed me in the hospital this week. I felt pain in the same leg that the blood clot was in originally and when I got to the hospital surely there was a clot. I only stayed for one day and I am now released on Lovenox for the rest of my life.

I woke up with a very hard, warm, swollen calf but no pain. I went to work, then to a family doctor after 4-5 hours working, which is my normal day as I am semi- retired. Then my doctor sent me to get a sonogram on my leg and was found to have a large deep blood clot, for which they immediately admitted me for 4 days, using Heparin, then Warfarin and was sent home and could do whatever I felt like doing. It's now 7 months later and I still have an improved clot and I am still on warfarin, and I am still working also. An IVC filter is probably next in a few days to keep any clot from going to my lungs or heart. Hope this helps someone.

I pulled my calf muscle playing basketball. I went to the ER, had an x-ray. I was told no broken bones and to continue activities as normal. Two weeks later I had the same pain, difficulty walking and sleeping. My family doctor told me to elevate and rest. I decided to go back to the ER and am glad I did because I had a blood clot. They immediately started me on medication to thin the blood. I am glad I did not ignore my instincts.

I have had three blood clots. The first one was when I was 15. Now I am 27 and I still suffer from swelling. It aches a lot in the night because I'm on my feet all day. I don't think the swelling will ever stop.
